Run the River 2022

We’re celebrating ten years of our twilight charity run. But our fight to put an end to wasted potential is far from over. Sign up for Run the River 2022 and help every young person get the opportunities they deserve.

With a virtual race option for those who can’t come to the London-based in-person event, there’s never been an easier way to take part.

Virtual event
Complete your 5km or 10km route in a location of your choosing during event week and help tear down hurdles for the poorest schoolchildren. Run, roll or stroll your chosen route – wherever you are – and raise vital funds to help every young person get the opportunities they deserve.

Taking part is easy:
1.    Sign up
Click the green 'Sign up here!' button above, then select ‘Virtual 5km’ or ‘Virtual 10km’ and sign up for £15 as a UK-based runner or £19 if you’re overseas. Your registration fee will cover the costs of the event including your technical t-shirt and finisher’s medal.

2.    Support any way you can
Donate or fundraise to support Teach First or your chosen Teach For All global partner. And don’t stop there. Spread the word and get friends, family and colleagues involved. 5km or 10km. Any route. Any ability. Anywhere in the world. It’s that simple.

3.    Plan your route
Choose your own 5km or 10km route. Go through a local beauty spot, past Buckingham Palace, through Times Square, or up and down your garden. It's up to you!

4.    Log your run
Track your run between Monday 19 – Sunday 25 September with your preferred running app or fitness device. Log it through our portal to see where you stand on the leader board.

5.    Receive your medal
All virtual finishers for Run the River 2022 will get their medal in the post. Don’t forget to share photos with us on social media @TeachFirst (Twitter) and @TeachFirstUK (Instagram) using the hashtag #RunTheRiver, or through our Run the River Strava group.

Your support has never been more vital
Before COVID-19, poorer kids only had half the chance of fulfilling their potential at school than their wealthier classmates. The hurdles are now even higher.

Schools serving the most disadvantaged communities will be at the heart of our recovery. They’re already doing all they can to prepare their pupils for whatever lies ahead. But they can’t do it alone.

Will you help us put an end to wasted potential?

Take part in Run the River and pledge your support for Teach First or your chosen Teach For All global partner.

If supporting Teach First, you can add a donation at checkout, create an online fundraising page, or donate directly to the Run the River 2022 JustGiving Campaign. If you're fundraising for a Teach For All partner, choose your nominated charity when signing up and they'll send you all the information you need to get started.

Whether you're fundraising for Teach First in the UK or one of our Teach For All network partners around the world, you'll be helping more young people get the opportunities they deserve.

Taking part as a team
You can take part in Run the River solo or as part of a team. When signing up, team captains should click 'Create a team' and choose a team name. All other team members should select 'Find a team' and search for it by name. It's that easy.

If your company would like to cover the cost of your team, we can support with arranging an invoice. Get in touch with us at events@teachfirst.org.uk to make the arrangements.

You can also fundraise as a team using JustGiving

If you plan to run with your team, please remember to follow your local government guidelines regarding social distancing.

Logging your time
The results portal will be live from Monday 19 September.  Make sure you submit your result by midnight on Sunday 25 September to ensure you receive your medal.

To make things even easier, when you sign up you can link your Strava or Garmin account to your registration so your virtual race result will be automatically uploaded to the leader board.
